@bmichelson Interesting article. Smart Metering has govt mandation in UK and is ramping up. Google have cloud offering - http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/power-to-people.html

@bmichelson (slightly old) plug for Capgemini in Smart Metering (Doug really knows his stuff!) - http://www.us.capgemini.com/DownloadLibrary/files/factsheets/Capgemini_SmartMetering_FS.pdf

Interesting you mention a new event/data stream vendor. Probably they will join the existing event stream processing vendors in the market with custom/proprietary query language extensions on top of SQL (there are no SQL standards for continuous/streaming event/data queries).

Disclaimer: TIBCO has a similar query language, except we deal with event objects not events-as-rows (i.e. OQL not SQL). See http://tibcoblogs.com/cep/2009/02/13/the-value-of-queries/ .

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment on this post. It was very insightful. It may also serve as interest to you to know that some of the topics that have been mentioned here I will take to the CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting) being currently held in my country where the issues of climate change as well as alternative forms of energy will greatly discussed
